Why choose herbal medicine?

Herbal medicine is the oldest medicine system on the planet with most of the world continuing to rely on its resources for all kinds of diseases.

Medicinal plants are used to cleanse, support and strengthen the body’s own natural healing mechanisms to promote health and wellbeing for the individual. It is holistic in its approach, which means all aspects of a person’s health and lifestyle are taken into consideration and treated alongside their symptoms. This also means that each herbal prescription is completely unique to each person.

Herbal medicine provides a safe and gentle treatment for a wide range of conditions with very few side effects. This is because unlike synthetic drugs, which have only one or two active ingredients, herbal remedies have hundreds of chemical constituents, which are balanced within the plant. It utilizes herbal remedies from all over the world based on traditional uses, which have been supported and updated by scientific research.

Who comes to visit a herbalist?

You can come to see a herbalist with a wide range of both acute and chronic conditions including:

  • Recurrent infections and allergies

  • Digestive problems

  • Menstrual, menopausal and fertility problems

  • Arthritis and joint problems

  • Respiratory disorders

  • Heart and circulatory problems

  • Urinary infections

  • Stress, fatigue and nervous conditions

  • Skin conditions

  • Children’s health issues

Some people choose to see a herbalist when they don’t quite feel themselves or would like to incorporate herbs into their lifestyle for optimal health and wellbeing.

Herbs can be a gentle and safe form of treatment particularly for children and elderly people.  They can also be used safely alongside orthodox medicines from your doctor or other forms of treatment. A full drug history is part of the consultation and herbs that have known interactions with any drugs you are taking will not be prescribed.

What will happen when I come for a consultation?

The first consultation will be between 60 to 90 minutes depending on the problem. A detailed case history will be taken including all aspects of your health.

This is usually followed by blood pressure, pulse taking and any other relevant diagnostic examinations. The proposed treatment will be discussed alongside any dietary and lifestyle recommendations.

The medicine will be ready within one to two days after your appointment and can be collected or posted to you.  Remedies come in many forms the most common and easy to take is a tincture (a liquid herbal remedy preserved in alcohol). Teas, creams, aromatic waters, pills and other herbal remedies can also be prescribed depending on the needs of the client. Prices are usually between £5-10 a week. All remedies are organic and sustainably sourced.

After the initial consultations a follow up is usually planned, depending upon the problem, two to four weeks after the initial consultation and lasting 30-45 minutes. This may continue each month depending on the nature and severity of the problem.
